ShekelTech

Accessibility statement

ShekelTech's analysis is meant for anyone who wants to understand the economy, including people with disabilities. The site is built to meet Israeli Standard IS 5568 (based on WCAG 2.0) at level AA, as required by the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 2013.

What we did

  • A consistent page structure, headings in order and labelled navigation areas. Every page starts with a "Skip to content" link.
  • The whole site works with a keyboard alone, and the focused element is clearly marked.
  • Colour contrast meets level AA in both light and dark mode (following your device setting).
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content, and pages adapt to phone screens.
  • Each page declares its language and text direction (Hebrew right to left, English left to right).
  • Every chart has a number, a title, a source and a full data table ("Show the data") that screen readers can read. Line charts can also be explored with the arrow keys.
  • Tables have header rows, and wide tables that scroll sideways can be reached with the keyboard.
  • Nothing moves or plays by itself, and the site respects the "reduce motion" setting.

The accessibility menu

The accessibility button sits in the bottom right corner of the screen (a figure in a blue circle). It opens a menu to enlarge text, raise contrast, highlight links, switch to a readable font, increase spacing, read text aloud, stop animations and show a reading guide, among other options. Your settings are stored only in your browser. The menu is based on OpenNagish, an open-source component.

You can also zoom with your browser: Ctrl and + (Cmd and + on a Mac).

How the site was checked

The site was tested with the automated checker axe-core against WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 rules at levels A and AA, and with keyboard navigation, in Chromium-based browsers (such as Chrome and Edge), at desktop and phone sizes, in light and dark mode.

Known limitations

  • Source links lead to external sites and documents (for example the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Bank of Israel, sometimes as PDFs) that we don't control and that may not be fully accessible. If one isn't accessible to you, write to us and we will send the relevant information in an accessible format.
  • Charts are visual. Their information also appears in the text and in the data table under each chart.

ShekelTech has no office or in-person service, and the site currently has no video or audio.
